Wales Flag

The Welsh flag, featuring a red dragon on a green and white field, is a powerful symbol of Welsh national identity. Its origins can be traced back to ancient times, with the red dragon believed to have been the battle standard of King Arthur.  

The first recorded use of the dragon as a symbol of Wales was in the Historia Brittonum, written around 828. The green and white background was added later, during the Tudor period, when Henry VII, who was of Welsh descent, adopted the colors as his own.  

The flag was officially recognized as the national flag of Wales in 1959, after centuries of use as a symbol of Welsh identity. Today, it is a ubiquitous symbol of Wales, appearing on everything from government buildings to sports jerseys.
